Rachel Carroll Interview with Richard Morecroft
Interview & footage by Richard Morecroft
The late Patrick Carroll (1949 – 2019) was a contemporary realist, exhibiting successfully and painting full time over four decades. His work focused largely on landscape – either dramatically rendered wild environments or carefully observed perspectives of more urban locations. As his daughter Rachel explains to Richard Morecroft, Patrick’s approach to paint was often adventurous and exploratory; evoking detail from marks created using tools from kitchen utensils to cling-film.
This comprehensive survey of works by Patrick Carroll is long overdue. Rochfort Gallery together with the Carroll Family have curated this survey exhibition, gathering for the first time the generous arc of his work and capturing the broad facets of his devotion and skill. Here is an artist who painted from dawn to dusk and whose bright vision casts a long shadow.
